Job Overview
Responsible for monitoring and maintaining an optimal UAMPS resource load balance including forecasting of energy needs of the system. Buys and sells power to maintain system balance, markets excess power, and contacts control areas to schedule power and tagging of energy. Ensures that members are well informed of changes in power resources, schedules, and loads. Updates database with scheduling, pricing, and billing information. Keeps management well informed of area operations and significant problems. Provides assistance to Schedulers and area personnel as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Assumes responsibility for effectively performing scheduling functions.
a. Monitors UAMPS loads and resources continuously to maintain optimal power balance.
b. Contacts control areas on an hourly basis to schedule power. Utilizes computer monitoring and telephone communications.
c. Completes purchasing and selling market power resources to maintain load resource balance.
d. Updates scheduling and meter database records. Inputs power schedules and prices to be used in billing processes.
e. Contacts power marketers to gather sales information for surplus resources.
f. Monitors UAMPS power meters and advises appropriate personnel if problems arise.
g. Troubleshoots potential capacity problems on an ongoing basis and makes adjustments as appropriate including but not limited to transmission limits and purchasing of transmission.
2. Assumes responsibility for maintaining effective communication and professional relations with members and external contacts.
a. Advises members and outside contacts of changes in UAMPS resources and loads.
b. Ensures timely and accurate communication to members regarding power scheduling and resources.
c. Maintains professional and productive relations with members and power vendors.
3. Assumes responsibility for maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relations with Company personnel and management.
a. Make suggestions to improve scheduling operations and procedures.
b. Works to minimize costs associated with bottlenecks and poor control of power resources.
c. Performs scheduling functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
d. Coordinates activities with other departments to ensure smooth operations.
e. Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant concerns. Provides special scheduling and meter reports as requested.
4. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
a. Ensures that the work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
b. Stays informed of developments and changes in production scheduling and marketing strategies.
c. Completes special projects as assigned.
Performance Measurements
1. UAMPS loads and resources are properly monitored and balanced at optimal levels.
2. Buying, selling, and marketing of power resources are conducted in accordance with established policies and regulations.
3. Members are well advised of power loads, schedule changes, and resource status. Communications are accurate and timely.
4. Scheduling and meter databases and all related records are current, complete, and accurate.
5. Professional relations are developed and maintained with outside power vendors and trade contacts.
6. Good communication and effective coordination exist with Operations and Planning personnel.
7. Management is well informed.
Requirements
Qualifications
Education/Certifications
High school graduate with related technical training, or an equivalent combination of work and experience.
Required Knowledge
- Knowledge of UAMPS operations.
- Understanding of power buying and selling procedures.
- Knowledge of related computer applications.
